Meet Drew Roberts, Communication Specialist at Summit Vista
William Wordsworth once said, “Life is divided into three terms—that which was, which is, and which will be. Let us learn from the past to profit by the present, and from the present, to live better in the future.”
Drew Roberts, communications specialist with Summit Vista, is at least 50 years shy of retirement, but working three short months at the Life Plan Community, he’s quickly learned how to live better in the future.
“I see the importance of helping others stay more active,” said Drew. With his grandfather living in a retirement community, Drew personally understands the value of active senior living.
When a childhood friend told Drew about a job opportunity at Summit Vista, he jumped on it. As a native of the Salt Lake area, Drew, like many retirees, appreciates Summit Vista’s central location, sweeping mountain views and convenient accessibility to downtown, and the valley suburbs. “It’s smack dab in the middle of everything,” said Drew.
He is also thrilled to see Summit Vista’s clubhouse take shape. “The aspect of having a community is really exciting to me,” said Drew. He believes in the powerful benefits of staying socially active and maintaining interpersonal relationships, and how it factors into physical and emotional health.
“It will be great to see people take part in the activities and clubs,” said Drew. “They will have a community, not just a home or apartment.”
Drew and the rest of the Summit Vista team pride themselves in developing relationships and making every effort to get to know potential residents. “We want them to learn who we are and vice versa,” said Drew.
He admits that some people aren’t familiar with the Life Plan Community lifestyle and encourages them to visit the “showroom.” Stopping by, he says, is the best way to visualize the property. “There’s no pressure,” said Drew. “If it’s not for you, it’s not for you and that’s fine.”
But he adds that most people who visit Summit Vista express excitement about the community, or share disappointment about not visiting the Summit Vista showroom sooner.
Drew has more than a few years before retirement. Between now and then, he’ll continue to teach piano lessons, take real estate classes and work toward completing an architecture degree.
But, he also has his eyes set on what lies ahead. While working at Summit Vista he has started to think about his retirement options and about saving for the future. “I won’t want to sit home by myself,” said Drew. “I know I’ll want to stay active.”
