When you finally make it to your retirement years, you should spend your time doing the things you love – and the things you’ve always wanted to try. I mean, after all, you’ve certainly earned it! I know that I plan to travel a lot in retirement, and I know that many other people want to do the same. If you still want to work a little bit in retirement to avoid boredom, keep your brain working, or even just earn some extra cash, then freelancing your skills is a great idea. It allows you to pick when and where you take jobs, and you can set your rates. You can craft a schedule that works perfectly for you, and you don’t even have to be consistent about it.
Spend More Time Doing Things That Bring Joy
I think the thing I most look forward to upon retiring is having the ability to slow down in every aspect of my life. I will spend more time with my family, more time with myself, and more time doing things that bring me joy without the stress and responsibility of work. I want to camp a lot upon retirement, and appreciate the natural world as best I can. I want to volunteer with organizations that are meaningful to me and be unapologetic with how I spend my time.
Trying out RV Living
One of my big retirement dreams is to try out RV living. I like the idea of living on the road, traveling the country in my leisure, and seeing sights I haven’t had time to see due to my work schedule. The absence of any demands on my time will make it easier to turn everyday into a travel adventure.
Still Pursuing My Passion, but on My Own Terms
I am often asked how I plan to spend my retirement years without work dictating my schedule.
The answer is simple: I plan to continue working on my terms. I intend to freelance, consult, and start new business ventures – all while enjoying more time with family and friends, traveling, and exploring new hobbies. In short, I plan to use my retirement years to pursue my passions, without the traditional 9-5 grind standing in my way.
Of course, this isn’t the only way to approach retirement. Some people choose to downsize, move to a warmer climate, or spend more time volunteering or caring for grandchildren. But for me, the key is to find ways to stay active and engaged, without letting work dictate my every move.
Spend More Time On Hobbies and Favorite Sports to Keep Active
My plan in my retirement years is to spend more time doing the activities I enjoy but can’t justify when I’ve got to manage my time around work commitments.
For example, I plan to spend additional time volunteering in my community, using my skills to help worthy organizations. Of course, I also plan to spend more time with family and friends.
But I also plan to invest more time in my hobbies and favorite sports so that I keep my mind and body active.
Reading Books and Spending Quality Time With My Family
● Reading Books
I like to read business books and spiritual books so much. I’ll spend my retirement hours reading books. To read the books more efficiently, I’ll take the books from every field in sequence. For instance, first, I’d like to read business-related books, then I’d like to read spiritual books, and then normal fiction. It will pass my time and also add lots of value to my life. Many people say that books are the best friend of any human being. So, I’ll make my books my best friends and start spending time with them in my retirement days.
● Spending Time With Family
I also like to spend time with my family. So, I also prefer to spend my retirement days with my family. In the days of my services, I lacked in giving time to my spouse, but now in the retirement phase, I’ll try to give as much time to my spouse. Although, the children will not have much time because they will be living their service life at that time. I mostly like to perform different types of activities with my family and spouse. I like playing games, singing, gardening, and much more.
